Diallo reaches Eastbourne quarterfinals with three-set win

Canadian tennis player Gabriel Diallo advanced to the quarterfinals at the Eastbourne International on Tuesday, defeating Argentina's Tomas Martin Etcheverry in a three-set battle. The match, played on the grass courts of Devonshire Park, ended with scores of 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 in favor of Diallo, who is ranked 85th in the world.

Hard-fought victory on grass

Diallo, 24, showcased his powerful serve and aggressive baseline game to overcome the 32nd-ranked Etcheverry. The match lasted 2 hours and 18 minutes, with Diallo firing 12 aces and winning 78% of his first-serve points. The Canadian broke Etcheverry's serve three times, including a crucial break in the final game of the third set to seal the win.

“It was a tough match. Tomas is a great player, especially on clay, but I felt confident on grass today,” Diallo said in his on-court interview. “I stayed focused and took my chances when they came.”

Quarterfinal opponent awaits

Diallo will next face either American Sebastian Korda or Australian Alex de Minaur, who play their second-round match later Tuesday. The quarterfinal is scheduled for Thursday. This marks Diallo's first ATP Tour quarterfinal appearance on grass and his second overall, following a quarterfinal run at the 2024 Atlanta Open.

The Eastbourne International is a key warm-up event for Wimbledon, which begins on July 6. Diallo is seeking to improve on his previous best Grand Slam result, a second-round appearance at the 2025 US Open.
