Kyle Okposo Behind the Bench
Former NHL forward Kyle Okposo, who played 17 seasons with the Buffalo Sabres and New York Islanders, is coaching Team Minnesota at this year's tournament. Okposo expressed pride in seeing his son take the ice. "It's an incredible experience to watch him live out his dreams," Okposo said, according to CTV News Edmonton. "I get to share my passion for the game with him."
A Showcase for Young Talent
The Brick Invitational, established in 1990, features 16 teams of 11- and 12-year-olds competing for the championship. Many alumni have gone on to NHL careers, including Connor McDavid and Sidney Crosby. This year, several ex-NHLers are involved as coaches or parents, including former Edmonton Oilers forward Ryan Smyth and ex-Vancouver Canucks defenseman Willie Mitchell.

The involvement of former professionals provides young players with unique mentorship opportunities. "Having these guys around elevates the level of play and gives kids a taste of what it takes to reach the next level," said tournament director Mike Peluso.
