Shelby Boisjoli-Meged and her husband, Haven Meged, both claimed victory in their respective events at the Calgary Stampede rodeo on Saturday, July 4, 2026, making for a memorable Fourth of July celebration for the new parents.
Double Wins for the Megeds
Shelby Boisjoli-Meged, a local cowgirl from Langdon, Alta., won the ladies breakaway roping event with a time of 2.5 seconds, earning $7,000. Haven Meged, an American tie-down roper, secured his win with a 7.0-second run, also taking home $7,000. The couple's victories marked the first time both had won on the same day at the Stampede.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah … it’s a great Fourth of July, you know?” said Haven Meged. “I don’t think we’ve both won it the same day here. I won the championship here in ’24, and she won in ’25. So I think that’s the closest as it’s come, I guess, for us.”
New Parents Celebrate with Diapers
The Megeds are the parents of nine-week-old Wylder, who joined them on stage to accept their bronzes. Despite the double victory, the couple kept their celebration low-key. “Now, we’ll go to sleep,” said Haven Meged. “We’re sleeping. We’re not out there partying. And we’ll buy some diapers with the money.”
Defending Champion Bounces Back
For Shelby Boisjoli-Meged, the win was a comeback after a rough start on Friday, when her calf got away from her in the first go-round. As the defending champion in breakaway roping, she felt the pressure but delivered when it mattered.
“I didn’t know,” admitted Boisjoli-Meged. “I was pretty nervous. I knew that I had a great calf, and I had a chance, but confidence-wise, I didn’t know anything.”
Returning to competition after pregnancy and Wylder's birth has been challenging. “It’s been pretty tricky coming back, especially trying to find my competitive edge,” she said. “I’m just kind of wired. I just worry about Wylder all the time — he’s all I think about. So it’s been hard of kind of just to tell myself to focus on my business here and my job. I’m slowly getting back to that.”
Standings and Next Rounds
With his tie-down win, Haven Meged now leads all ropers in Pool A with a two-day total of $13,250, heading into the final day on Sunday. The couple's recent rodeo travels have not been smooth; last week, their vehicle broke down while traveling to the Williams Lake Stampede in British Columbia.
