The Barrie Rangers have captured the J. Ross Robertson Trophy as Ontario Hockey League champions, completing a four-game sweep of the Barrie Colts with a decisive victory in Game 4 on Tuesday night.
Dominant Performance Seals the Title
The Rangers, who finished atop the OHL standings in the regular season, carried that momentum into the playoffs. In the final series, they outscored the Colts 18-10 across four games, showcasing both offensive firepower and defensive resilience. Goaltender Ethan Langevin was named playoff MVP after posting a .936 save percentage in the finals.
Key Moments in Game 4
In the clinching game, the Rangers jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first period on goals from Brandon Coe, Evan Vierling, and Declan McDonnell. The Colts fought back with two goals in the second, but the Rangers held on for a 4-2 victory. Captain Brandt Clarke scored an empty-net goal to seal the win and was mobbed by teammates as the final buzzer sounded.
Historic Achievement
This is the Rangers' first OHL championship since 2019 and the fourth in franchise history. The team will now advance to the Memorial Cup, where they will face the champions of the WHL, QMJHL, and the host team. Head coach Marty Williamson praised the team's depth and determination, saying, "This group has been special all year. They refused to lose."
Colts Show Class in Defeat
The Colts, who finished second in the regular season, were gracious in defeat. Players lined up to shake hands with the Rangers after the game, a tradition that highlights sportsmanship. Captain Luke Beamish noted, "They were the better team, and we congratulate them." The Colts will look to rebuild for next season with a young core returning.
The Rangers now shift focus to the Memorial Cup, which begins May 22 in Kamloops, British Columbia. They will aim to become the first OHL team to win the national championship since the Hamilton Bulldogs in 2022.
