Windsor to Host World Junior Hockey Summer Showcase in 2026
Windsor Hosts World Junior Summer Showcase

The road to the World Junior Hockey Championship for Canada will begin in Windsor this summer. Hockey Canada, in partnership with the City of Windsor and the Windsor Spitfires, announced on Tuesday that the WFCU Centre will host the 2026 World Junior Hockey Summer Showcase from July 26 to August 1.

Second Time in Three Years

This marks the second time in three years that Hockey Canada has brought its world junior hopefuls to Windsor. In 2024, the WFCU Centre hosted the team for four days prior to the Summer Showcase held in Plymouth, Michigan. That event featured a Red and White scrimmage and an exhibition game against Sweden.

"We are incredibly proud to welcome the World Junior Summer Showcase back to Windsor," said John Savage, co-owner and governor of the Windsor Spitfires, in a release. "This is a tremendous opportunity for our city to once again be on the international stage and a testament to the passion our community has for the game of hockey."

Why Windsor Was Chosen

D'Arcy Hutcheson, Director of Events for Hockey Canada, explained that USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth is undergoing renovations, making it the perfect time to bring the entire Summer Camp event to Windsor. "The fan support, hockey knowledge of the fanbase, a tremendous venue, a natural rivalry across the border, a dedicated group of volunteers, and a Spitfires team willing to actively support were all key factors in selecting Windsor," Hutcheson said.

Historically, Windsor and the Spitfires have been strong supporters of Hockey Canada, hosting the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in 2011-12 and World Junior Summer Camp in previous years.

Participating Teams and Schedule

Canada's junior team hopefuls will be joined by Finland, Sweden, and the United States for 10 games as part of preparations for the 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship, scheduled for December 26 to January 5 in Alberta. The Canadian team will play Sweden on July 29 at 7 p.m., Finland on July 30 at 7 p.m., and the United States on August 1 at 4 p.m.

"The World Junior Summer Showcase is a very important step in our preparations and building our team for the 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship," said Alan Miller, Hockey Canada's General Manager of the Program of Excellence. "This showcase gives us the opportunity to continue our player evaluation, building relationships and chemistry amongst players and staff, and set our standards and expectations for our team in a very competitive environment."

High-Caliber Event

Last year's showcase featured 104 National Hockey League drafted players, with 34 being first-round selections. Canada led the way with 22 first-round picks at the event.

"On behalf of the Windsor Spitfires' organization, we are excited to partner with Hockey Canada to deliver a first-class event," Savage added. "Our staff, volunteers, and fans all play a role in creating an unforgettable experience, and we look forward to showcasing everything Windsor has to offer to players, officials, and visitors from around the world."

Tickets for the showcase go on sale Friday. A full-event package starts at $164, a three-game Canadian package starts at $129, and single-game tickets start at $20. For more information, visit HockeyCanada.ca/Tickets.
