Five Must-See Saskatoon Concerts in March

This March, Saskatoon's music scene is set to come alive with a vibrant array of concerts showcasing top Canadian talent. From Indigenous pop and folk to high-energy rock, there's something for every music lover to enjoy in the city. Here are five must-see performances to mark on your calendar.

Elisapie: A Blend of Folk, Pop, and Inuktitut Lyrics

Elisapie, a celebrated Canadian Inuk singer-songwriter originally from Nunavik, Quebec, will grace the Broadway Theatre stage on March 17 at 7:30 p.m. Known for her unique fusion of rock, indie, folk, and pop with Inuktitut lyrics, her music also incorporates classic rock and traditional Indigenous elements. In an interview, Elisapie shared that her songs draw from childhood memories and storytelling, offering a personal and contemporary view of Inuk experiences.

"It's not necessary to talk about how we're from the north and we're nomadic people and that we hunt. It's not so much about that, but more on a personal, contemporary view that I want to share. It's important because that's how we are, so it will be about very personal Inuk experiences," she explained.

Elisapie expressed excitement about touring in Western Canada, noting it as a privilege to bring her album and show to Saskatoon. "I'm just really happy to be bringing this album and this show, because I never thought I was actually going to even make it to producing a show like this of my personal and healing journey through songs," she added. Her performance aims to bridge Indigenous and non-Indigenous stories, fostering dialogue and connection.

Her album "Inuktitut" has garnered critical acclaim, earning a Juno nomination for 2025 Album of the Year and winning Adult Alternative Album of the Year. It also made the Polaris Music Prize 2024 Shortlist and secured a 2024 Juno for Contemporary Indigenous Album of the Year. Tickets for her concert are available at broadwaytheatre.ca.

Black Pistol Fire: Blues, Garage Punk, and Southern Rock Fusion

On March 14 at 8 p.m., the Canadian rock duo Black Pistol Fire will perform at Louis' Pub on the University of Saskatchewan campus. Formed in Toronto by childhood friends Kevin McKeown (guitar and lead vocals) and Eric Owen (drums), the band is renowned for blending blues, garage punk, and southern rock influences.

Their top hits include "Lost Cause" and "Bully" from the album "Deadbeat Graffiti." In 2022, Black Pistol Fire received two Juno Award nominations for Breakthrough Group of the Year and Rock Album of the Year for "Look Alive."
