Thousands Without Power in Halifax Amid Heat Wave

Thousands of residents in the Halifax region are experiencing power outages as a heat wave continues to grip the area, according to Nova Scotia Power. The utility reported that widespread outages have affected numerous customers, with crews working to restore electricity amid the high temperatures.

Outages Widespread Across Halifax

Nova Scotia Power's outage map showed multiple areas in and around Halifax without power on Friday evening. The cause of the outages is under investigation, but the extreme heat is likely straining the electrical grid. The utility stated that restoration times vary by location.

Environment Canada has issued heat warnings for much of Nova Scotia, with humidex values expected to reach 36°C. The heat wave has also led to increased demand for air conditioning, further stressing the power system.

Impact on Residents

Residents are urged to stay hydrated and check on vulnerable neighbors. The outages come as temperatures remain high overnight, making conditions uncomfortable without fans or air conditioning. Some have taken to social media to report outages and seek updates from Nova Scotia Power.

“We are aware of the outages and are working as quickly as possible to restore power,” a Nova Scotia Power spokesperson said. “We appreciate customers’ patience during this time.”

Heat Wave Continues

The heat wave is expected to persist through the weekend, with little relief in sight. Nova Scotia Power advises customers to prepare for possible extended outages and to report any downed power lines immediately. The utility has also reminded customers to conserve energy where possible to reduce strain on the grid.
