Nationwide Salmonella Outbreak Triggers Food Recall in Quebec
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has initiated a significant food safety recall affecting multiple provinces after linking certain pistachio-containing products to a national Salmonella outbreak. The recall specifically targets Andalos brand baklava pastries that were distributed through retail and online channels.
Affected Products and Distribution Details
According to the recall notice issued in August 2025, the contaminated products were sold in New Brunswick, Ontario, and Quebec. Investigation records indicate that most of the recalled items were sold at a bakery in Montreal and served to customers between June 25 and July 26, 2025.
The CFIA has confirmed that the pistachio ingredients in these products are the likely source of the Salmonella contamination. Consumers who purchased Andalos brand baklava during this period are urged to immediately dispose of the products or return them to the point of purchase.
Health Risks and Consumer Safety Measures
Salmonella infection can pose serious health risks, particularly to young children, elderly individuals, and those with compromised immune systems. Health officials recommend that anyone who consumed these products and experiences symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, or abdominal cramps should seek immediate medical attention.
The CFIA continues to work with public health authorities and the food industry to monitor the situation and ensure all contaminated products are removed from the market. This recall highlights the importance of robust food safety protocols throughout the supply chain.
