Canada Day 2026 in Metro Vancouver offers a wide range of celebrations, from fireworks and parades to family-friendly activities. Communities across the region are hosting events on July 1 to mark the nation's birthday.
Vancouver Fireworks and Festivities
The City of Vancouver's main Canada Day celebration takes place at Canada Place, featuring live music, cultural performances, and a fireworks display over the harbour. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., with fireworks scheduled at 10 p.m. Attendees are advised to arrive early as crowds are expected.
In addition to Canada Place, several neighbourhoods host their own events. Granville Island offers family activities and live entertainment, while Stanley Park hosts a picnic and outdoor games.
Surrey Canada Day Extravaganza
Surrey's Canada Day celebration at Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheatre is one of the largest in the region. The event features a day-long lineup of concerts, a multicultural food fair, and a fireworks finale. Admission is free, and shuttle buses are available from various park-and-ride locations.
According to Surrey city officials, over 100,000 people attended last year's event. This year's headliner is a popular Canadian rock band, though the city has not yet confirmed the name.
Burnaby and Richmond Celebrations
Burnaby's Canada Day event at Swangard Stadium includes a citizenship ceremony, live performances, and children's activities. The day concludes with fireworks at 10:15 p.m. Richmond celebrates at Minoru Park with a parade, cultural showcases, and a community barbecue.
Richmond's parade starts at 11 a.m. and features floats, marching bands, and community groups. The park also hosts a stage with performances by local artists throughout the afternoon.
Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam Events
Coquitlam's Canada Day festivities take place at Town Centre Park, with a focus on family fun. Activities include inflatable bouncers, face painting, and a petting zoo. Fireworks begin at dusk. Port Coquitlam hosts a celebration at Gates Park, featuring a car show, live music, and a fireworks display.
Both cities emphasize accessibility, with designated parking for people with disabilities and sign language interpreters at main stages.
North Vancouver and West Vancouver
North Vancouver's Canada Day event at Waterfront Park includes a salmon barbecue, live entertainment, and a fireworks show over Burrard Inlet. West Vancouver celebrates at John Lawson Park with a pancake breakfast, children's games, and an evening concert.
The North Vancouver Salmon Barbecue is a highlight, serving over 2,000 portions of grilled salmon. Proceeds support local charities.
Delta and Langley
Delta's Canada Day celebration at North Delta Community Park features a family fun zone, food trucks, and a fireworks finale. Langley's event at McLeod Athletic Park includes a parade, midway rides, and a drone show instead of fireworks to reduce noise and environmental impact.
Langley's drone show is a new addition this year, featuring 200 synchronized drones forming patriotic shapes and messages.
Transportation and Safety Tips
TransLink is offering extended service on Canada Day, with additional buses and SkyTrain cars. Many events are accessible via public transit. Attendees are encouraged to plan their route in advance and check for service updates.
Police remind the public that alcohol is prohibited in most public parks unless in designated areas. Fireworks are banned in many municipalities unless part of an organized display.
