Transportation and road closures

The City of Edmonton advises that several roads will be closed downtown and near the legislature from 6 a.m. to midnight on July 1. Free shuttle buses will run from parking lots at the University of Alberta and the Expo Centre to the main event sites. ETS will offer extended service on LRT and bus routes, with extra trains and buses after the fireworks.

According to a city spokesperson, “We encourage everyone to plan ahead, use public transit, and arrive early to secure a good spot for the fireworks.”

Safety and weather

Edmonton Police Service will have a visible presence at all major events, and a temporary lost child center will be set up at the legislature grounds. Attendees are reminded to stay hydrated and wear sunscreen, as temperatures are forecast to reach 28°C. Fireworks safety zones will be clearly marked, and no personal fireworks are permitted.

The Canada Day festivities are expected to conclude by midnight, with cleanup crews working through the night to restore the grounds.
